Fog Flooded Valley Below Ridge Transmission Towers in across a windy overpass interchange in Kathmandu

Fog Flooded Valley Below Ridge Transmission Towers

by Annabelle Nash

Steel lattice transmission towers stand rigid along a mountain ridge, their dark forms silhouetted against a perfectly clear sky. Below, a thick layer of white fog fills the valley floor like a slow-moving river, obscuring the ground entirely. The first light of dawn catches the upper edges of the metal framework, creating a sharp rim of silver against the deep shadows of the tower bodies. In the foreground, the concrete and asphalt of a windy overpass interchange weave through the base of the ridge, its gray surfaces cool and matte. Midsummer heat is invisible in the cool shadows, but the clarity of the air above the fog line is absolute. A thin wire stretches taut between two pylons, vibrating slightly in the wind, casting a faint shadow on the mist below.
