Floating Rice Harvest M'banza-Kongo Mist

Woven mats laden with golden rice grains hover inches above the damp earth between vineyard trellises near M'banza-Kongo. Thick mist swallows the lower trunks of the vines while the rice bundles remain suspended in midair, defying gravity under the flat, white glare of noon. Reflected light from a nearby water source creates a shimmering silver layer beneath the floating harvest, blurring the boundary between ground and sky. The woven textures of the mats appear rigid and heavy, yet they drift upward without support. Shadows are soft and diffuse, lost in the thick vapor, showing the impossible weightlessness of the drying crop against the rigid, vertical lines of the vineyard posts. One grain rests on a mat, catching the light like a tiny diamond.
