Fireflies Over Rice Fields Lahore Night in beneath thin cloud gaps and stars near Lahore

Fireflies Over Rice Fields Lahore Night

by Keith Joseph

Cold moonlight spills through thin cloud gaps above an irrigated rice field near Lahore, illuminating rows of young green shoots in early spring. Tiny points of amber light drift upward from the waterlogged soil, marking the presence of fireflies against the dark canopy. The wind whips the slender stalks into a synchronized ripple, bending them sharply toward the horizon. Above, a scattering of stars pierces the dark sky between the moving clouds. The water surface reflects the pale lunar glow and the erratic flashes of the insects. In the foreground, wet earth glistens under the blue-white light, while the tips of the rice plants sway rapidly in the gusts.
