Cusco Aqueduct Sunset Silhouette Under Bridge
by Andrew McKay
Rough-hewn stone blocks form a crumbling aqueduct arching across a dry river valley bed, captured from a low angle near the ground. The structure stands in sharp silhouette against a sunset sky heavy with dramatic, textured clouds. Above the ancient masonry, the sleek steel cables and concrete span of a modern cable-stayed bridge cut a geometric line across the frame. The late afternoon sun washes the scene in deep orange and purple hues, turning the stone into a dark, jagged shape. Dust settles on the cracked masonry, while the dry riverbed stretches out beneath the arches. The contrast between the weathered Inca-era stone and the contemporary bridge infrastructure creates a layered vertical depth, with at the edge being the sharp edge of a broken stone corner against the bright sky.
