Fata Morgana Icebergs Over Saskatchewan Summer

by Chris Bond

Midsummer heat shimmers above the flat prairie landscape of Saskatchewan, warping the horizon into a vertical stack of impossible ice formations. These mirage icebergs appear as dark, jagged silhouettes rising from the ground, defying the local geography. Behind them, the distant glow of a town paints the sky in soft oranges and muted purples as evening sets in. The air itself looks thick and liquid, blurring the line between the earth and the distorted sky. Sharp contrasts define the dark shapes against the fading light, while the foreground remains a dark, textured expanse of dry grass and soil. at the edge is the crisp, black edge of the lowest mirage layer cutting across the warm, hazy sky.
