Fallstreak Hole Over Fuzhou Thunderheads

by Vincent Lugo

Bright late-afternoon sunlight illuminates a vast sky where a circular gap tears through a uniform cloud layer. This fallstreak hole reveals the blue expanse above while the surrounding clouds remain solid and white. Below, a horizon line of stacked thunderheads rises in dark, heavy layers, their bases flat and tops billowing with vertical growth. The clouds in the foreground show fine, fibrous textures where ice crystals are falling. Wind whips the edges of the cloud formation, stretching the white vapor into thin, wispy tails that trail downward. The scene is dominated by the stark contrast between the deep blue sky and the dense white and grey storm masses. A sharp shadow falls across the lower edge of the fallstreak hole, marking the boundary between the open sky and the cloud cover.
