Faded Medieval Frescoes in Predawn Chapel

Faint ochre and earthy blue pigments rest on the curved stone vault of a chapel in Ostermalm, Stockholm. The dry season air leaves the ancient plaster slightly dusty, while condensation beads along the edges of a nearby glass window, catching the dim devotional glow. Shadowed arches frame the composition, their rough stone texture against the smooth, worn surface of the painted figures. Leading lines from the ribbed ceiling draw toward the center of the darkened nave. Soft light reveals the cracks in the mortar and the subtle texture of the faded religious iconography. one drop of moisture rests on the glass edge, reflecting the faintest hint of the warm light above.
