Castilian Cathedral Flying Buttress Morning Light

by Austin Dominguez

Stone arches rise steeply against a dim chapel interior, their weathered surfaces catching the first pale rays of dawn. Stained glass windows cast fractured pools of ruby and sapphire across the rough masonry, illuminating a thick haze of incense smoke that drifts slowly through the air. The early monsoon season brings a dampness visible on the cold stone, darkening the lower sections while the upper arches remain dry and pale. Shadows stretch long and quiet along the curved walls, showing the weight of the masonry. A thin beam of golden light cuts through the haze, landing precisely on the edge of a carved stone bracket where dust motes hang suspended.
