Eucalyptus Regrowth After Fire in Panama in along a salt-sprayed cliff edge near Panama City

Eucalyptus Regrowth After Fire in Panama

by Willa Mosley

Steel-blue evening light washes over a dense stand of eucalyptus saplings rising from blackened, ash-covered soil. The new growth displays vibrant lime-green leaves that contrast sharply with the charred, charcoal-gray trunks of the surviving trees. Fine dust hangs low and suspended above the forest floor, catching the fading ambient glow in a hazy, translucent layer. The tight framing isolates the vertical rhythm of the slender stems against the dark earth. Rough bark textures on the older trunks show deep fissures filled with gray soot. A few pale, curled leaves rest on the ground, while the tips of the younger branches reach upward into the cool, steel-toned sky.
