Eucalyptus Regrowth Near Algiers in Midsummer Light
by Molly Spears
Pale silver-green eucalyptus trunks rise vertically against a backdrop of dramatic, heavy midsummer clouds. The forest floor displays a mosaic of charred black bark and vibrant new shoots, marking the regeneration after a past fire. Bright sunlight reflects off a nearby body of water, casting a soft, cool sheen across the rough, peeling bark of the trees. The leaves shimmer with a waxy texture, catching the reflected light that softens the harsh midday glare. Dark shadows pool beneath the low-hanging branches, creating depth between the slender stems. The composition places the densest cluster of regrowth in the lower right third, leaving the upper left open to the brooding sky. One branch extends outward, its fresh green tip catching a glint of reflected blue from the water below.
