Emerald Fjord Aerial View Before Dusk in high over salt ponds and causeways near Stellenbosch

Emerald Fjord Aerial View Before Dusk

by Greg England

Emerald water fills a deep, narrow fjord flanked by sheer, dark rock walls that rise vertically from the surface. Above the valley, layers of salt ponds reflect the copper-toned light of late summer dusk, separated by raised causeways. A thin sheet of fog hovers just above the ground, softening the transition between the rugged terrain and the distant horizon. Warm oblique sunlight strikes the rooftops of scattered structures and the flat fields, casting long, soft shadows across the landscape. The perspective looks straight down, revealing the geometric precision of the ponds against the organic curves of the water. One ripple breaks the mirror surface of the emerald pool near the center.
