Rippled Tidal Flats Before Sunrise Near Wellington
by Carolyn Dale
Cold silver dawn light spills across a vast expanse of tidal flat where intricate ripple patterns etch the wet mud. The surface glistens with a mirror-like sheen, reflecting the pale, overcast sky above. Layers of terraced hillsides fade into the distance, their green slopes softened by the lingering moisture of a clearing storm. The water has receded completely, leaving behind a textured canvas of dark earth and shallow pools. Mist clings low to the ground, blurring the horizon where the land meets the sea. Shadows are long and soft, stretching across the undulating ripples without harsh edges. The scene remains still, showing the geometric precision of the natural patterns against the organic curves of the distant coast. A shallow pool near the foreground catches the faintest hint of blue from the sky.
