Aerial Fjord View Emerald Water Steep Walls

by Callie McClure

Emerald water fills a deep, narrow channel flanked by steep, shadowed walls that rise sharply from the surface. Overhead, layers of low clouds drift across a pale sky, breaking into patches of soft, diffused light that illuminate the water's glassy texture. Below the vantage point, salt ponds and causeways form a geometric grid of white and pale gray against the earth. The cool season air hangs still, preserving the crisp edges of the landscape. Sunlight catches the wet surfaces of the salt pans, creating bright reflections that contrast with the dark, mossy slopes of the canyon. The water appears deep and unmoving, bordered by rugged terrain that fades into the hazy distance. A thin line of white foam marks the edge where the channel meets the salt flats.
