Damp White Sheets in Izmir

A weathered wooden clothesline stretches across a narrow balcony in Izmir, holding damp white sheets against the overcast midday sky. The fabric hangs heavy with water, its folds catching the flat, diffuse light that washes out shadows on the stucco wall behind. Below, the rough texture of the balcony railing shows signs of salt corrosion and age, at the base of the scene in the coastal reality of the city. One metal clip clamps the edge of the sheet, securing it against the gentle, persistent breeze coming off the Aegean Sea.
