Dawn Pipes and Valves Belfast Reservoir in beneath transmission towers near Belfast

Dawn Pipes and Valves Belfast Reservoir

by Petra Cleveland

Cool gray fog rests on the concrete edges of a pumping station beneath towering transmission structures near Belfast. Industrial pipes in muted rust and steel gray snake across the ground, their valves standing like rigid sentinels in the pre-dawn stillness. Autumn leaves, brown and brittle, scatter against the damp pavement, caught in the low light that traces the metal surfaces. The converging lines of the infrastructure draw toward a distant vanishing point where the sky remains a pale, featureless wash. Shadows stretch long and sharp across the machinery, showing the civic austerity of the site. One rusted bolt on a heavy valve reflects the faint morning glow.
