Cypress Knees Rising from Dark Water

Dark, still water fills the frame, broken only by the rough, knobby protrusions of cypress knees rising vertically from the depths. The wood displays a textured surface of deep browns and grays, against the slick, black liquid. Ferns line the unseen forest floor, their green fronds visible at the water's edge. Overhead, a heavy, steady rain creates a consistent pattern of ripples across the surface, distorting the reflection of the sky. The light is bright and tropical, cutting through the gloom of the polar night, illuminating the spray of water droplets suspended in the air. The composition remains minimalist, focusing entirely on the vertical lines of the wood against the horizontal plane of the water and rain.
