Laundry Lines in Havana Alley at Sunset in along a market-lined side street in Havana

Laundry Lines in Havana Alley at Sunset

by Sven Page

Worn concrete walls line a narrow Havana alley, their peeling paint revealing layers of faded teal and ochre. Clotheslines stretch taut between the structures, heavy with drying linens that catch the low, fiery light of the setting sun. Dramatic, rain-heavy clouds loom overhead, their dark undersides against the warm glow that spills across the wet pavement. Puddles reflect the hanging fabrics and the deepening sky, creating a mosaic of muted colors on the ground. Wet stucco surfaces gleam under the ambient firelight, while rough cotton laundry hangs limp beside the damp brickwork. One patch of bright orange fabric hangs lowest, its edge catching the last direct ray before the shadows lengthen across the cracked street.
