Cracked Lens Abandoned Lighthouse Denmark Ruins

by Irene McKinney

Heavy overcast skies press low against a crumbling white stone lighthouse standing amidst toppled columns and tall green nettles. The late spring sun struggles through the flat glare, casting soft shadows from the recent rain that glistens on the wet masonry. Thick cracks spiderweb across the massive glass lens inside the lantern room, clouding the interior with a gray haze. Weathered iron railings curve around the gallery, rusted to a deep orange-brown that contrasts with the pale, damp stone. Moss rests on the base of the structure where the grass turns a darker, saturated green. One shard of broken glass rests on the wet ground near a fallen column, reflecting the dull sky above.
