Cracked Basque Silo in Steel Blue Fog in in the Basque Country

Cracked Basque Silo in Steel Blue Fog

by Keith Bryan

Steel-blue ambient light washes over a weathered concrete silo standing alone in the late summer landscape of the Basque Country. A deep, jagged crack splits the cylindrical structure from its moss-stained base to the crumbling rim at the top. Thin fog drifts across the base, softening the boundary between the gray stone and the damp earth. The surface texture reveals decades of erosion, with patches of rust-colored metal clinging to the concrete. Late summer grasses grow sparse around the foundation, bent by the weight of time. The structure leans slightly, its resilience visible in the way the heavy concrete holds against the widening fissure. The crack runs straight up, dividing the smooth, rounded wall into two uneven halves.
