Cormorant at Cartagena Port Twilight

Cool blue twilight washes the edge of a reed bed near Getsemani, Cartagena, where a cormorant stands motionless. Behind the bird, massive gantry cranes of a container port rise against low-hanging clouds. The bird's dark feathers absorb the fading light, against the pale green reeds swaying slightly. The industrial steel structures loom in the background, their geometric lines softening in the distance. Shadows stretch long across the wet grass. The bird remains perfectly still, eyes fixed forward. One reflection of a distant crane light shimmers on a puddle near the reed roots.
