Crescent Moon and Cranes at Havana Port

A pale crescent moon hangs high above the skeletal steel cranes of a sleeping container port near Havana. Cool season air leaves the wind-scoured ridge clear of clouds, revealing the dark silhouette of the machinery against the deep indigo sky. Beams of white light from a distant lighthouse sweep across the scene, momentarily illuminating the rusted textures of the metal arms before plunging them back into shadow. Several cranes stand motionless on the ground, their long legs and necks forming sharp, dark shapes against the faint glow of the port lights. The shallow depth of field blurs the distant shipping containers into soft, indistinct blocks of color while keeping the foreground cranes and the moon in crisp focus. A reflection of the lighthouse beam catches on a wet, oily patch of pavement near the base of the nearest crane.
