Copper Sunset Reflects on Solar Array Over Zimbabwe Levee

by Bridget Guthrie

Thick mist hangs low over the floodwater, framing rows of dark solar panels that run parallel to a raised levee path. Copper light from the setting sun pierces through breaks in the clouds, washing the glass surfaces in warm orange and deep red tones. The dry season air holds dust on the metal frames, while the angled modules catch the firelight warmth above the damp earth. Viewed from near the ground, the panels stretch into the haze, their reflective surfaces creating a jagged line of bright color against the gray water below. A dark shadow from the nearest frame falls across the dry dirt at the edge of the path.
