Cuban Solar Array Under Twilight Skies in beneath transmission towers in Cuba

Cuban Solar Array Under Twilight Skies

by Pierce Strickland

Rows of silver photovoltaic panels stretch across a bed of coarse gravel and sparse scrub vegetation. The wet season leaves the ground dark and damp, reflecting the heavy overcast sky above. Distant transmission towers rise on either side, their steel lattices framing the installation. On the horizon, a faint orange glow from a nearby town pierces the gray clouds, against the cool metallic tones of the array. The rigid geometry of the solar mounts creates strong leading lines that draw the gaze toward the fading light. Rust spots mar the edges of some metal frames, while wet droplets rest on the panel surfaces. One shadow falls sharply across the nearest row, defining the depth of the installation against the flat, expansive terrain.
