Copper Light on Chile Observatory Pier in beside a tidal survey transect in Chile

Copper Light on Chile Observatory Pier

by Jonah Swain

Copper-toned light strikes the rough concrete surface of a telescope pier standing alone in a high desert yard. Fine aggregate texture marks the vertical column, showing subtle weathering from the late summer sun. Beside the structure, a tidal survey transect stretches across the arid ground, defined by thin metal stakes and taut white tape. Wind whips loose gravel and dry shrubbery around the base, bending the tape slightly. Shadows lengthen sharply across the concrete as night approaches. A small red marker flag snaps against the wind at the edge of the transect line.
