Telescope Pier in Iranian Desert Outcrop in along a rocky geology outcrop in Iran

Telescope Pier in Iranian Desert Outcrop

by Clara Blevins

Dappled sunlight falls through sparse leaves to strike a cylindrical concrete pier rising from the arid ground. The structure stands isolated against a backdrop of jagged, rocky geology typical of an Iranian high desert. Late summer heat shimmers slightly above the pale stones, while the sky above remains a flawless, unbroken azure. Shadows from the surrounding foliage create a mosaic of light and dark across the pier's smooth surface and the uneven terrain at its base. Converging lines of the rocky outcrop and the pier itself draw the gaze toward a distant vanishing point on the horizon. The concrete shows subtle weathering, blending with the earth tones of the rock. A small patch of green moss rests on the shadowed lower rim of the foundation.
