Citrus Cross Section Near Turquoise Wall

Pale, translucent membranes fan out from the center of a sliced citrus fruit, their delicate structure highlighted by low grazing light. The fruit rests against a wall of weathered turquoise paint, where layers of chipped color reveal hints of white and gray beneath. Deep shadows swallow the background, isolating the subject in the final blue light of evening. Soft reflections shimmer on the damp, textured surface of the fruit's skin and the rough plaster nearby. The turn of seasons is visible in the slight dryness of the peel's edges. A thin shadow falls across the lower curve of the fruit, grounding it against the peeling paint.
