Upside-Down Castle Turret Sky Reflection in inside a skylit passageway near Seoul

Upside-Down Castle Turret Sky Reflection

by Carol Villa

Warm firelight glows against the stone walls of a modern Seoul passageway, illuminating early autumn drizzle droplets clinging to the surface. Above, the ceiling has transformed into a deep, still pool of water reflecting an impossible night sky. A stark silhouette of a medieval castle turret hangs inverted from this liquid ceiling, surrounded by a dense field of bright stars. The firelight casts sharp, orange shadows on the damp floor, against the cool blue tones of the reflected sky. Raindrops on the real floor mirror the inverted stars above, blurring the boundary between the earthbound corridor and the celestial void. One droplet rolls slowly down the vertical stone, distorting the reflection of a distant star.
