Canal Lock Gate Closing on Green Water

Steel plates of a massive canal lock gate seal against the surface of still, emerald-green water near a dam spillway in Marseille. The late afternoon sun casts sharp, defining shadows across the concrete embankment, highlighting the industrial texture of rusted bolts and smooth hydraulic pistons. Fine mist and spray hang suspended in the air just above the water line, catching the light like a translucent veil. From a low angle near the ground, the gate looms with engineered force, its vertical lines converging upward. Wet concrete reflects the green hue of the water, while droplets rest on the metal seams. One rivet head gleams at the base of the gate.
