Slow Loris on Wind-Scoured Belgian Ridge in on a wind-scoured ridge in Belgium

Slow Loris on Wind-Scoured Belgian Ridge

by Marilyn Reid

Reflected water light washes over a slow loris perched on a weathered branch atop a grassy ridge. The animal grips the wood with dark, fur-clad limbs while its massive amber eyes stare forward, catching the late-afternoon glow. Low dust hangs in the air near the ground, swirling gently in the wind that scours the early summer landscape. A tree trunk frames the left side, creating a natural window that isolates the subject against the blurred greenery. Fine hairs along the loris's back glow gold in the soft light, against the deep shadows in the fur. The branch bark shows rough textures worn smooth by years of exposure. One dewdrop clings to a nearby leaf, trembling slightly.
