Birds Eye View Plunge Pool Below Waterfall

by Jonas Lang

Bright midmorning sunlight floods a narrow plunge pool carved into the wave-cut shoreline near Lhasa. Turbulent white water crashes from a tall, vertical drop, churning the deep blue basin below into a frothy vortex. The surrounding rock face is a mix of gray granite and weathered sediment, textured by centuries of erosion. Wind whips across the surface, stretching the spray into fine, horizontal threads that catch the light. Ferns and hardy alpine grasses rest on the damp, mossy edges of the pool, their green hues vibrant against the stone. The water reflects the clear sky above, while the sheer verticality of the fall creates a dramatic sense of depth. A small patch of wet sand glistens at the pool's edge where the current slows.
