Turquoise Lake in Volcanic Caldera Lhasa

by Clara Watts

Rugged, dark volcanic rock forms a steep, circular rim that encloses a vivid turquoise lake. The water surface shimmers with ripples driven by strong winds, creating a textured, choppy appearance across the basin. Pale, dry grasses rest on the upper slopes of the crater walls, against the deep charcoal tones of the cooled lava. The late afternoon sun casts long, sharp shadows into the crevices of the rock face, highlighting the rough, jagged texture of the geology. Above, the sky is a clear, pale blue, devoid of clouds. The water reflects the bright sky, intensifying its electric blue hue. A thin layer of white foam gathers along the rocky shoreline where the wind pushes the waves.
