Austrian Prairie Thunderstorm at Midday

Heavy gray clouds dominate the sky over the flat Austrian plains, pressing down on the landscape in early winter. Distant lightning fractures the horizon with sharp, pale violet streaks that illuminate the low-hanging storm front. The foreground consists of dormant, frost-tipped grasses and bare shrubs rendered as dark silhouettes against the brightening storm line. Soft, diffused light from the overcast sky eliminates harsh shadows, creating a flat, uniform tone across the fields. A layer of mist rests on the ground near the horizon, blending the earth with the turbulent sky. The electric flash reflects faintly on the wet, dark soil, highlighting the texture of the frozen grass blades.
