Pillow Lava Rock on Zermatt Porch Night
A bulbous pillow lava formation rests on a wooden porch floor, its dark, glassy surface catching the harsh glare of overhead fluorescent tubes. The rock's smooth, inflated texture contrasts sharply with the rough, weathered grain of the surrounding timber planks. To the side, a wooden rocking chair sits empty, its curved runners resting on the same floorboards. Deep shadows pool beneath the chair legs, while the artificial light creates soft, elongated reflections on the rock's wet-looking crust. Outside the open doorway, the deepest night sky presses against the stone facade of a Zermatt chalet, visible only as a void of absolute black. Early autumn is hinted at by the muted tones of the wood and the stark, clinical brightness of the interior light. The final edge of the lava rock reflects a thin line of white light from the ceiling fixture.
