Alert Kookaburra on Wind-Scoured Ridge

Tropical bright light floods the frame, illuminating the rough, grey bark of a gum tree branch against a stark, wind-scoured ridge. A kookaburra perches with intense alertness, its white chest feathers ruffled by the gusts while dark eyes scan the horizon. Late summer heat hangs heavy in the air, evidenced by the way dry leaves skitter across the foreground and tremble on the twigs. The bird's beak is slightly open, frozen mid-call in a display of untamed tension. Fine details of feather texture contrast with the blurred, motion-blurred foliage behind it. One leaf caught in the wind hovers just inches from the bird's talon.
