Prickly Pear Cactus Fruit at Abu Dhabi Sunset

Salt-spray bleaches the jagged limestone cliff edge where a prickly pear cactus anchors itself against the encroaching desert. Early spring light casts long, sharp shadows across the pale, dusty ground. The cactus pads display a deep, dusty green, their surfaces dotted with tiny golden glochids. Bright red fruits rest on the pad tips, glowing like embers against the cooling sky. Dramatic, dark clouds stack above the horizon, catching the last fierce rays of sunset that wrap the landscape in orange and violet hues. The rough, weathered texture of the stone contrasts with the smooth, waxy skin of the fruit. One shadow from the cactus spine falls across a cracked patch of dry earth.
