Alert Kookaburra on Gum Tree in Late Afternoon

Reflected light from a nearby water source illuminates the rough, gray bark of a gum tree, highlighting the textured feathers of a kookaburra perched on a thick branch. The bird's head turns sharply, its dark eye wide and fixed forward, conveying a sharp, untamed alertness. Behind the subject, heavy monsoon clouds gather in shades of slate and charcoal, against the warm, golden glow of the late afternoon sun hitting the water's surface. Droplets of rain rest on the bird's chest feathers, glistening against the brown and white plumage. The tight framing isolates the creature against the soft, blurred backdrop of the stormy sky and shimmering water below.
