Aerial Cemetery Grid at Dawn in Malawi

Pale gold light spills across a vast grid of graves in Malawi, where rows of white markers stretch toward the horizon. The dry season leaves the surrounding orchard blocks brown and brittle, crisscrossed by straight irrigation lines that cut through the earth. A light drizzle wets the soil, turning the dark ground into a reflective mirror that doubles the verticality of the headstones. Mist hangs low between the trees, softening the edges of the orchard blocks while the sharp geometry of the cemetery remains distinct. The perspective from above separates the human pattern of the graves from the organic chaos of the forest below. one drop of water slides down a curved stone marker, catching the first ray of sun.
