Waterfall from Crack in Delft Construction Wall in inside a taped-off excavation edge near Delft

Waterfall from Crack in Delft Construction Wall

by Freya Osborn

Damp dust darkens the plywood sheets and crushed stone beneath a rigging tag punch set near the taped-off excavation edge in Delft. Late afternoon sun cuts through the light drizzle, highlighting unfinished surfaces with sharp clarity. A surreal waterfall pours from a narrow crack in the concrete wall, defying all plumbing logic as water cascades onto the gravel below. The converging lines of the excavation guide toward a distant vanishing point. Autumn leaves rest on the wet ground, their orange hues against the gray stone and brown wood. The water creates small ripples on the dry-looking gravel before disappearing into the shadows of the pit. One droplet hangs from the edge of the plywood, waiting to fall.
