Washing Chilies in Delhi
A vendor in a soaked beige kurta leans over his cart under a translucent plastic sheet, the dim dusk light catching the ripples in a shallow metal basin of water where he washes bright green chilies. Rain streaks the plastic above, blurring the neon signs of the Chandni Chowk street into soft, colorful smears against the wet gray pavement. His hands move with practiced speed, scrubbing the produce clean while droplets bead on the rough wood of the cart’s edge. A few red chilies and a small woven basket sit nearby, their fibers catching the faint glow of a streetlamp reflecting off the puddles.
