Chili Peppers in Istanbul

Under the heavy, weeping canopy of a corrugated iron awning, a street vendor in a translucent plastic apron tends to a cart of glowing orange chili peppers. Rain slicks the asphalt, reflecting the warm tungsten bulb hanging above the produce in rippling, distorted gold. The vendor, an older man with a weathered face, carefully arranges the bright red chilies on a damp wooden board, his hands moving with practiced efficiency. Behind him, the blurred shapes of passing commuters with umbrellas create a soft, gray bokeh against the darkening dusk sky. A small, chipped ceramic cup sits on the edge of the cart, steam rising in thin, fragile wisps that mingle with the misty air.
