Derelict Signal Box in Swedish Vine Corridor
by Leon Goff
Misty gray dawn light falls through heavy overcast skies, illuminating a weathered wooden railway signal box standing alone along a vine-choked corridor. The structure, stripped of paint, reveals gray, rotting timber planks and a rusted metal roof sagging under the weight of the polar night. Inside the open window frame, a cluster of brass and iron levers remains frozen in position, their surfaces dulled by decades of neglect. Thick green vines climb the exterior walls, intertwining with the decaying wood, while bare branches of surrounding trees stretch into the pale, diffused sky. The ground around the base is covered in damp moss and fallen leaves, creating a textured carpet of earth tones. One rusted hinge hangs loosely on the side door, casting a long, thin shadow across the rotting floorboards. The low angle emphasizes the box's looming presence against the muted, gray horizon.
