Twilight Dust Devil Merida Reflected Light in beneath fast-moving cloud bands near Merida Venezuela

Twilight Dust Devil Merida Reflected Light

by Tom Robinson

Cool season twilight settles over a flat dirt field beneath Merida, Venezuela, where a slender dust devil spirals upward. Fast-moving cloud bands streak across the sky, their undersides illuminated by reflected light bouncing off a nearby body of water. The swirling column of brown earth contrasts sharply against the softening blue and gray tones of the cooling air. Shadows stretch long and thin across the dry ground, showing the texture of the cracked soil. From a high vantage point, the vortex appears as a delicate, rotating ribbon of sediment caught in the fading glow. at the edge is the sharp edge of the dust cloud where it meets the smooth, mirror-like surface of the water below.
