Noctilucent Clouds Over Caracas Horizon

by Kyle Holcomb

Pale, electric-blue filaments of a noctilucent cloud stretch horizontally across the deep indigo sky just above the darkened northern horizon. Below, the Caracas landscape sinks into heavy shadow, defined only by the jagged silhouette of distant ridges and scattered city lights flickering in the valleys. Fast-moving cloud bands streak across the mid-sky, their edges catching a final rim of violet light that separates them from the blackness. The dry season air leaves the mountains bare and textured, while the wind whips the lower cloud layers into thin, shredded ribbons. In the foreground, a rough concrete barrier anchors the view, its gray surface dull against the luminous atmospheric glow above.
