Barges in Morning Mist on River Lock Staircase

Thick, low-hanging mist rests on the surface of the wide river, obscuring the waterline near the concrete lock staircase. Several heavy barges sit motionless in the queue, their hulls painted in faded industrial reds and greys that absorb the soft morning light. The low sun strikes the horizon haze, casting a pale golden glow that barely penetrates the dust hanging low above the water. From behind the vessels, the perspective looks down the line of metal and wood, revealing the wet, slick texture of the lock walls rising steeply on either side. Green foliage from the rainy season presses against the concrete edges, its leaves dark and glistening with recent moisture. One metal railing runs along the top of the nearest barge, reflecting the dull sky above.
