Tsingy Needle Karst Wet Season Evening Haze in in Madagascar

Tsingy Needle Karst Wet Season Evening Haze

by Marie Fisher

Sharp limestone pinnacles rise vertically from a dark, still pool reflecting the fading sky. The wet season has left the stone surfaces slick and darkened, against the pale gray of the upper needle edges. Soft, diffuse light bounces off the water, illuminating the jagged vertical ridges without casting harsh shadows. Layers of these needle formations recede into a low, blue-gray haze that rests on the distant horizon, softening the farthest peaks into a misty silhouette. The water surface remains glassy, mirroring the towering spires and the subtle gradient of the early evening sky. A faint reflection of the nearest rock tip shimmers on the dark liquid below.
