Terracotta Pots in Venice

Winter noon light strikes the wet cobblestones of a narrow Venetian calli, illuminating a cluster of cleaning tools left by a worker near a waterlogged doorway. In the immediate foreground, two wooden-handled mops lean against a rusted iron bollard, their frayed ends damp and heavy with canal spray. Further back, the scene extends into the shadowed recess of a palazzo entrance where terracotta pots sit stacked against a peeling lime-wash wall, providing a textural contrast to the smooth stone pavement. A sudden gust lifts the edge of a discarded plastic sheet, revealing the glistening, dark water seeping between the uneven bricks.
