Open Window in Venice

A narrow canal-side passage glows under the fading violet light of a Venetian summer evening, where the damp stone walls reflect the deep blue hue of the stagnant water below. An open wooden shutter reveals a glimpse of a kitchen interior, the chipped blue enamel of a sink catching the last ambient light, while a white curtain lifts slightly in the draft, hinting at movement within. On the wet cobblestones outside, a pair of rusted metal stools sit abandoned near a drainage grate, their legs slick with condensation. A discarded plastic cup rests precariously on the edge of a mossy step, its rim reflecting the neon sign from a nearby trattoria across the water.
