Maneuvering Cart in Venice

Damp cobblestones in a narrow Venetian calli reflect the bruised purple sky as light rain softens the edges of the evening. A local worker in a high-visibility vest maneuvers a heavy wooden cart past a weathered doorway, the scuffed painted wood of the frame against the slick stone. The cart’s metal caster wheel catches a stray beam of amber light from a nearby lantern, rolling over wet patches that mirror the fading day. Beside the entrance, a discarded scrub brush leans against a pile of damp sacks, its bristles matted with mud, while a folded fan rests precariously on a windowsill, ignored by the passing foot traffic.
