Tandem Paraglider Lighthouse Sweep Sera Night in at a harbor quay near Sera, Lhasa

Tandem Paraglider Lighthouse Sweep Sera Night

by Gary Miller

Deep indigo night swallows the harbor quay near Sera in Lhasa, broken only by the rhythmic sweep of a lighthouse beam. A tandem paraglider soars low above the water, harnesses glowing against the dark. The wind stirs summer dust that hangs suspended in the air, catching the light. Behind the flyer, hundreds of identical paragliders form a rigid, impossible grid stretching into the distance, their canopies perfectly aligned like a manufactured sky. The camera tilts sharply, throwing the quay railing and the waterline into a dizzying diagonal. Shadows stretch long and thin across the wet stones, while the repeating shapes of the paragliders create a geometric wall that defies the natural horizon.
