Swimmer Buoy Turn Village Lane
by Ross Yang
Choppy blue water fills the frame as a lone swimmer in a dark cap and goggles breaks the surface near a yellow turn buoy. The scene is set on a grassy village lane in early autumn, where the grass shows patches of yellow and brown under bright afternoon sun. Hard-edged shadows stretch across the turf, marking the low angle of the light. Wind whips the swimmer's hair and creates whitecaps on the water's surface, adding clear kinetic energy. The swimmer's arm is mid-stroke, cutting through the waves with visible force. The buoy bobs slightly, tethered by a rope that disappears into the water. A splash of water droplets hangs in the air near the swimmer's shoulder, frozen in the bright light. The edge of the lane meets the water with a muddy bank, at the base of the impossible setting in a rural texture.
